About this Adventure
Working in a summer camp with Camp Counselors USA may be demanding but the rewards are endless. This is a cultural exchange experience where you will often work not just alongside Americans but with internationals from all over the world. If you are at least 18 years old by June 1st, active, creative, have a positive attitude and would be a great role model for children, then you will be sure to thrive on this type of working adventure.
Choose Your Role
You will be a leader, role model, and hero to campers typically aged 7 – 16. Your main role is to ensure campers are safe, happy and that their camp experience is as rewarding as possible.
You will be the teachers and coaches on camp. You will prepare, supervise and instruct specific activities within your field of expertise.
You will possess the experience, maturity and qualifications to make you the expert in a specific activity area on camp. You will not only prepare, supervise and instruct specific activities within your field of expertise, but you may supervise staff within that area.
Your role is to help keep camp operations running smoothly and efficiently. Positions range from preparing meals and cleaning the kitchen, to office work, maintenance, and grounds work.
Choose Your Camp Types
Traditional Program
Includes both privately owned camps and camps run by an agency (such as the YMCA, JCC or 4-H). These camps often have long-standing traditions and campers and staff return year after year.
Specialty Program
Focus on one specific area such as performing arts, gymnastics, horseback riding, etc. Although these camps offer traditional camp activities the programs are designed to teach and develop skills in a specialized area.
Girl Scout
Camps based on the traditional philosophies of the Girl Scouts. Scouting or Girl Guide experience is not required to work at these camps.
Underprivileged/Inner-City
Make a difference in the lives of kids from low-income families. They often help give urban campers their first rural experience. Many are run by charitable organizations or government agencies.
Special Needs*
Serve children and/or adult campers who have physical and/or developmental disabilities.
Specific Requirements*
Serve children and/or adult campers who have specific medical conditions. Conditions including emotional disorders, learning disabilities, diabetes, terminal illness, hearing/sight impairment and weight control.
Religious
Serve campers from a Christian or Jewish background. They offer traditional camp activities while incorporating religious values.
Day
Have campers only Monday to Friday from approximately 8am-5pm. Campers return home at night.
* No previous experience working with these populations is necessary.
