Camp Description
Since 1902, Surprise Lake Camp has provided a haven for children and staff in the beautiful mountains of Cold Spring, NY. What makes SLC the best is the beauty of the site, the richness of the people and the program, the sense of history and tradition, and the magic we create when the whole thing comes together. How far is the nearest town to camp and what transport options are available for?
The nearest small town is Cold Spring, NY.The nearest big town is Fishkill. Both are about 15 min from camp. SLC will provide free daily trips to each town at a designated time. Staff can also take taxis or Ubers if they choose to leave/return at different times.

We are 1.5 hours from NYC.We take staff to train station each morning and pick up each evening.
We try to have one staff bus trip each week
There are staff activities offered nearly every night (movie night, bingo, ice cream night, dance parties, etc.)
Hiring For
Housekeeping
Responsible for cleaning bathrooms, showers, buildings throughout camp.Responsible for sweeping front of Main building, stairway to Rec. Room and Rec. Room. Prepares cabins for visiting groups or guests. Assists with unstuffing toilets and other duties and cleaning assignments as needed. Responsible for maintaining cleaning charts in washhouses and other buildings throughout camp. Serves on evening rotations and is available for emergencies as needed. Helps prepare camp for opening and closing at beginning and end of season. Attends weekly staff mtg
Dining Room Staff
Responsible for setting up the dining room prior to meals, for serving of meals to campers and staff in dining room, and for cleaning dining rooms, tables, and floors after each meal.Assists with maintaining a clean kitchen and dining room. Responsible for maintaining Jewish Dietary Laws (Kosher) in the dining room. Assist with camp’s policies on recycling. Helps prepare camp for opening and closing at beginning and end of season. Attends weekly staff meetings.
Maintenance/Handyman
Responsible for repairs as assigned, and weekly safety checks for exit signs, smoke detectors, and fire extinguishers. Responsible for general grounds keeping, and draining water lines as assigned. Assists with other duties as needed. Attends weekly staff meetings.
Dishwasher/Potwasher
Responsible for cleaning dishes and/or pots in the kitchen. Assists with maintaining a clean kitchen and dining room. Assists with camp’s policies on recycling and composting in the dining rooms. Helps prepare camp for opening and closing at beginning and end of season. Attends weekly staff meetings.
